Fauna Pages Animal Heroes

If you have a pet hero story to share please email me!
Many have heard of at least one story of a faithful pet who has saved an owner or even an entire family from a house fire or other hazard. This spot is dedicated to brave and loyal pets.

I was recently attacked by a very large stray dog in my back yard she had me on the ground and I could not get away from her I have a pit bull named Baby who is 15 years old and has some very serious arthiritis problems she was inside but I left onled me my screen door closed. She managed to tear through the screen and limp outside to pull this dog off of me even though it out weighed her by about 30 pounds. She saved me I was so proud especially since I constantly have to defend her breed.

I have a story about my family's hero: our Golden retriever, "Rush".

We adopted "Rush" when I was about 5 years old after finding him abandoned on a busy highway. He never received any formal training, but was instinctively protective of our family. One day, we were visiting our grandparents and were playing in the river near their house. My little sister, AJ, was only about 3 years old and was playing on the bank while the rest of us swam. She got a little too close to the edge and fell into some rapid water several yards away from us. We were too far away to reach her quickly, but our golden retriever saw what happened and acted immediately. He jumped into the river and raced toward my sister. He got right in front of her and let her grab hold of his fur so he could drag her to shore. Ever since he has had a very special place in our hearts. He passed away a few years ago from lymphoma, but we will always remember his loyalty and his love for us.

"I have MS and over the years suffered many attacks, leaving me very weak at times. But I always had my APBT Brina to help me. She always knew when I was going to have an attack and would go around the house picking up things like, toys, shoes, socks and even paper on the floor. Then she would place all the items she found and put them on the chair next to me and then climb up and lay down beside me and put her head on me. If I said I needed help, she would go to back door and bark alerting my daughter or neighbors downstairs. She developed cancer at the age of sixteen, but still wanted to help me. The morning she died, I was crying and she lifted her old head and licked my hand and placed her head on it, still caing more about me than herself. She is deeply missed! But now I have a pet loss support group in her memory called Brina's Friends..she would have liked that!"

"Here's my very short story:
When I was about five, my family and I lived in El Paso Texas. An intruder had come into our home one night. To alert us, my orange tabby cat, Buffy, turned on the stereo to full blast. My dad heard it, jumped out of bed, and scared the intruder away. Buffy sat atop the stereo just as proud as can be!"
